A little about the photographer.

I can’t really remember not having a camera, photography has always been a part of my life, as a boy growing up in Nottingham, England I had a Kodak pocket Instamatic, and I still have some of those old Black and white prints, although the negatives have long ago vanished into the ether.

I graduated to a Miranda TM (basically a Pentax clone) in the mid 70s, and after developing a strong interest ended up running 3 Pentax Super A bodies and a complement of Pentax lenses, some of which I still use today. Before making the switch to digital a few years ago I ran a couple of Pentax Digitals MZ5ns, which in my opinion is the best film camera that Pentax have developed in the last decade or more.

I moved into the digital age with an ist*d, and recently upgraded to the K10 D which I cannot recommend highly enough.

Apart from the limitation of Digital not being a full frame 35mm, which really annoys me as I cannot attain a full wide angle view, my much loved 15 mm becoming something like a 23 mm, I find the freedom of being able to view a result immediately is an amazing advantage, especially in commercial work where time is money.

All of the images on this site were taken using Pentax equipment, and when I use film which is becoming less these days, I use Fuji film stock. Fuji Velvia is my film of choice.

Photography to me is a passion, I see images everywhere but life often does not allow me the time to stop and take everything I see, which may be a good thing considering the size of my library.

I’ve lived in Perth, Western Australia since 1967, after migrating with my family at the age of 15.

Perth is a wonderful place, it has a Mediterranean climate and is often said to be Australia’s best kept secret being one of the most isolated cities in the world.

Many visitors take in the east coast, and miss out on the West because of the distance and cost of travel. They are missing the best part. The people are friendly and also because of our isolation are very innovative and self reliant. The landscape is huge, as are the distances and conditions are very varied, with desert conditions out to the east, and north and wonderful Jarrah and Karri forests containing an enormous range of unique wildflowers in the southwest. My book Cape to Cape, which focuses on the south western Margaret River region, which is also one of the states premier wine growing areas, illustrates the variety of landscape, flora and fauna available to the visitor only 3 - 4 hours drive from Perth.

I also teach photography, giving weekend classes at the University of WA, which I have been doing now for over 2 decades. It’s a rewarding experience giving something back to photography and watching others become consumed with the same creative energy that drives me.

If you would like to participate in any of my UWA classes please contact the university via their site - www.extension.uwa.edu.au.

In the images that are displayed on this my web site you will see some of my special places, and will hopefully gain an insight into my world, the place that I live and the way that I perceive it.

All of the images displayed and many more are available for purchase as prints or for commercial usage.
To date my work has been used in Greeting cards, Postcards, Calendars, Bookmarks, Telephone cards, Magazine features, Book illustrations, Promotional posters & Billboard.

The Perth Zoo has used my images in a variety of its publications, annual reports, posters and billboards.

My first book, Cape to Cape which is available for purchase through this site, was published in 2001, and my 2nd a commercial work on the 1st 10 years of Ellenbrook produced by LWP the developers of Ellenbrook where I live, was released in May 2006.
